The Amalfi Coast in Leica Frames

I’ve always dreamed of driving along the Amalfi Coast—feeling its legendary Italian beauty, soaking in its light, and feeling the coastal breeze. Last summer I travelled from Napoli to Sorrento, Nerano and Positano. I believe that my Leica lens brought a unique depth and richness to every shot. Its ability to render vibrant colours, soft tones, and intricate details allowed me to highlight the distinct character of each scene. Lemons, vibrant colors, and soft hues from "aperitivo" hours immediately come to mind when I think of Amalfi.

Let me give you a glimpse into some my most treasured moments and places, highlighting the soul of the Amalfi Coast through the tones and textures captured in my photographs.

Napoli

My trip began in historical Napoli, where the streets buzzed with life, and every turn offered something unique to capture. Narrow alleyways draped with fluttering laundry, the aroma of freshly baked pizza, and vibrant street art. My Summilux-M 35mm lens brought out every texture, every shadow, and every detail in this amazing city.

Sorrento

There is something special about Sorrento. Perhaps it’s the relaxed vibe—a contrast to Napoli’s energetic pace—or the warmth of its people. It felt as though everyone truly appreciated being there, admiring the beauty around them. The views from the cliffs were breathtaking, and with iconic lemon groves and turquoise water it seemed almost surreal. The best sunset spot is a Villa Comunale di Sorrento, a public park with garden. I’d recommend arriving early to secure a good spot as it gets very busy.

The Summicron 50mm lens beautifully captured the interplay of light and shadow and the turquoise water tones were preserved with stunning clarity.

As I wandered through Sorrento’s streets, I discovered the gallery of Raffaele Celentano, an Italian photographer, whose black-and-white photographs evoke timelessness. Visiting his studio felt like stepping into a classic Italian film.

Nerano

A charming fishing village tucked away from the crowds is about thirty minutes drive from Sorrento and it was a perfect place for lunch. I had to try the traditional Spaghetti alla Nerano at a recommended beach restaurant Maria Grazia. The food was delicious and together with the views of the sea made me wanted to stay there all day.

Positano

It’s the most famous and iconic village and a tourist destination with gorgeous views. Depending on where you park, your exercise starts the moment you step out of the car. Heading down to the beach means walking countless steps—after 300, I gave up counting! But the real challenge was going back up, an effort rewarded by breathtaking views at every step.

Traveling along the Amalfi Coast with my Leica was a journey filled with vibrant colours, soft tones, zesty scents, and warm air. Sorrento, in particular, will stay in my heart—it had the best vibe of all the places I visited, a perfect mix of relaxation and authenticity. I know one thing for certain—I’ll return someday to uncover even more of the Amalfi Coast’s magic.
